Sempra Energy’s IEnova Awarded Natural Gas Pipeline Contract
in Mexico

Infraestructura Marina del Golfo, a joint venture between Sempra Energy's Mexican subsidiary Infraestructura Energética Nova (IEnova) and TransCanada Corp., has been awarded a contract from the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), Mexico’s state-owned power company, to build, own and operate a natural gas pipeline in Mexico.

The 497-mile pipeline will pass under the Gulf of Mexico, transporting natural gas from an area near Brownsville, Texas, to Tuxpan, Veracruz.

The pipeline has a 25-year service contract with CFE and a capacity of 2.6 billion cubic feet per day. It will provide natural gas to new and existing CFE power plants that are currently using fuel oil. The availability and benefits of affordable natural gas have made it desirable for many countries, including Mexico, to switch their fuel preferences from oil to natural gas.

IEnova is one of the largest energy companies in Mexico and is the first energy infrastructure company to be listed on the Mexican Stock Exchange.
