SDG&E’s Escondido Battery Storage Project Enhances Grid Reliability

San Diego Gas & Electric, a Sempra Energy regulated California utility, recently “flipped the switch” on the 30-megawatt Escondido battery energy storage project, the largest lithium ion battery facility in the world. This innovative technology is helping to enhance grid reliability, power quality and increase the use of renewable energy. Since the project is critical to ensuring the reliability of the region’s power grid, Josh Gerber, SDG&E manager for advanced technology integration, and his team, were tasked with completing the project in an expedited timeline. As Gerber explains in the following video, teamwork was a key component of this project’s success.
